2. When to Start Wave Petunia Seeds

Wave petunias have a crop time of 10 to 14 weeks from sowing to a finished, saleable basket. Plan your start dates accordingly:

  • Spring sales (Mother's Day / Memorial Day): Start seeds in late January to mid-February.
  • Summer landscape programs: Start in February to March for late spring transplanting.
  • Fall programs: Start in June to July depending on your climate.

3. Germinating Bulk Wave Petunia Seeds

6. Watering Wave Petunias

Hanging baskets dry out fast, especially in summer. Wave petunias in baskets may need watering once or twice daily during peak heat. Key principles:

  • Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom — never just wet the surface.
  • Check moisture 1–2 inches deep before watering. If dry, water now.
  • Avoid letting baskets sit in standing water, which causes root rot.

Leggy growth: Insufficient light. Move to full sun or add supplemental lighting in the greenhouse.
